Thalapathi (Tamil: தளபதி; English: The Commander) is a 1991 Tamil Indian film written and directed by Mani Ratnam. This film stars Rajnikanth, Mammootty, Arvind Swamy, Srividya, Shobana, Amrish Puri, Bhanupriya, Nagesh, and Charuhasan. The theme of the film is based on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana of the Hindu-epic, Mahabharata. The film's score and soundtrack were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Cinematography of the film was handled by Santosh Sivan.
